If you’re looking to build a business website, it’s important to know where to start. There are many different elements that go into the process of building a website. From hosting to registering for a domain name and more — it may be hard to figure out where to start.
1. Figure Out the Basics
The first thing to do is decide the basics of your website. Decide what you want your website to do. Do you want an online store or a place for people to learn more about your business? Do you want both?
Deciding the purpose of your website helps with the building process. You can break down the design process based on what you want your website to have.
2. Decide Your Hosting Service
Once you have decided what you want your website to have, it is time to choose a hosting service. Do some research and see what hosting platform will suit your website needs. This is also a good time to decide whether you want a free or paid hosting plan.
Starting with a free hosting plan is fine. It will provide you with basic web design aspects that won’t overwhelm you. Once your business grows, you’ll want to switch to a paid plan. Or, if you want more options from the beginning, then start with a paid plan.
3. Choose Your Business Website Domain
The domain of your website is the URL name for your website. (i.e TechnologyAloha.com.) This is how people find your website, and what they interact with when they are on it. Your domain name should be your business name and it should be short. Domain names with your free hosting service have limits, so it’s a good choice to buy a domain name.
4. Time to Design
Now it is time to design your website. Many hosting services like WordPress may include free themes. You can use these themes to start if you’re not ready to do the designing yourself. If you don’t find any theme you like, you could also hire a web designer to help with the process.
With the design, there are many options. You can make your website as simple as you want. It is also important to think about your website structure. Figure out how you want users to be able to navigate through your site. If you decide to design your site on your own, make sure you use your brand colors and fonts. If you hire an outside company, make sure they do the same.
5. Three…Two…One… Test!
Test out your business website a few times before launching by clicking different buttons on your site. Once everything looks good, it is time to launch your website! Testing ensures that you come across any issues you haven’t noticed. Once you’ve launched, promote your website on social media and through email. This will get you traffic and make people aware of your new site!
