What to Know about Website Redesign in 2018

February 22, 2018

Technology seems to change at the speed of light every year, and that translates to a very short lifespan for our websites. The fact is, in order to keep up with your competition online, you need to update, reassess and even redesign your website on a regular basis. Is an online revamp in your site’s near future? Here’s what to know about website redesign in 2018.

Decreased Loading Times

According to a recent survey, 53% of users admit to leaving a website that takes longer than 3 seconds to load. That comes out to a lot of lost customers! When considering a redesign of your website, make sure you include greater loading speed in your plans.

Going Mobile

A mobile-friendly website is a must-have feature in 2018. Not only are more users spending time on mobile than ever before (one recent survey shows an increase from 35.6% to 43.6% just from 2016-2017), but Google is releasing its latest algorithm that favors mobile-friendly websites.

Responsive Images

Responsive design, when a website resizes itself to look appealing across any size device, is more than just a trend; it is a necessary part of 2018 website design. Many websites still lack this feature, so be sure to include it for a fully updated website.

Design

Website design trends in 2018 are all about breaking the mold. Clean, linear lines are giving way to more organic layouts. Web designers are getting creative, and it’s getting users’ attention.

Broken Grid Layouts

Up until as recently as 2017, the vast majority of website themes were based entirely upon a simple grid layout. Thanks to the new CSS Grid Layout, it is easier than ever to break out of the grid mold, and web designers are taking full advantage. Trending websites now boast new angles for a more fun, engaging user experience.

Serif Fonts

Yes, even the age-old wisdom that sans serif fonts (fonts without the “feet” at the ends of letters, like Helvetica) are necessary for online content is on its way out. Screen resolutions are much better than what they used to be, and serif fonts are gaining some traction.  In a sans serif-dominated world online, using a serif font could be a great way to stand out.
