#1. Pick a topic that your ideal client wants to read about.
Start by thinking about what sort of questions or problems your ideal client is facing. How can you help them out? Then pick a topic that answers one of these questions. Try not to go overboard in terms of scope—pick something specific to focus on, or go for a broad overview. You can always split up a large topic into several posts. This ensures your reader doesn’t lose interest halfway through your post, and also gives them a reason to come back to your site for more answers.
#2. Organize and write your content.
Start with a catchy, descriptive title that will draw the reader in. Keep it short but make sure it gives an accurate description of what they will learn from the post.
Next, work on the meat of your post. You may find it helpful to start with an outline, or just some bullet points to touch on. For the basic structure of your post, an intro, 3-4 paragraphs, and a conclusion will usually make for a clear, easy-to-read post.
#3. Format your blog post for visual appeal and easy reading.
Even if you beautifully craft every sentence in your post, the reality is that most people are going to skim it. Try to break your blog post up into shorter sections with relevant headings and sub-headings. Make sure to use clean, consistent formatting throughout the post—this helps make the post look great and is also easier to read. It’s also a good idea to include at least one image in your blog post, and feel free to include relevant videos and links as well. Images and videos can be great for reinforcing a concept, or just rewarding the reader with something fun to watch.
